Richard Eugene Axton, Sr., age 83 of Splendora, Texas, passed away Saturday, November 17, 2018.  He was born November 26, 1934 in Jackson, Mississippi to parents Richard Lafayette Axton and Lois Nail Axton who preceded him in death along with a baby brother, Brett Dwayne Axton.

As a man of GOD, Richard loved life and lived life to the fullest. Spending time with his church family, his friends, his immediate family or loving wife always put a smile on his face; especially when talking about the Lord. Teaching Sunday School classes in church, bible studies at home or simply him and his wife Helen discussing the Lord together were some of his favorite things to do. Richard would always make sure he made her smile in some way or another. There was not a person that he met that he would not witness for the Lord or in some form inject the Lord into the conversation.

Mr. Axton said on numerous occasions that he would rather us celebrate his life while on the earth, a long and fruitful 83 years, than mourn our loss. Asking that we celebrate his gain; he would always say…when we leave this earth it’s time to celebrate, because, To be absent from the body is to be present with the LORD!

Survivors include his wife, Helen F. Axton; sons, Richard Axton, Jr. and wife Kelly from Cleveland, Gary Axton from Splendora, Roger Hamilton and wife Nicole from Paris, France, and Joseph Hamilton from Cleveland; sister, Gloria Meinke from Splendora; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.
