John Wesley Hinson, Sr. age 84 of Cleveland, Texas, passed away Saturday, December 15, 2018.  He was born October 21, 1934 in Jeff Davis County, Georgia to parents Charles M.  and Frances Humphries Hinson who preceded him in death along with his brothers, Charles and William; and sisters, Janelle and Marion.

 

Mr. Hinson graduated from High School in Hazlehurst, Georgia where he played football and basketball. He received a football scholarship to South Georgia College in Douglas, Georgia. John graduated from University of Georgia with a degree in Forestry. After graduation, he moved to Oakdale, Louisiana to take a job with Farmcraft, Inc. A few years later, John and Robert Richardson bought Farmcraft, Inc. They had contracts with Exxon to manage some of their properties in Louisiana. When Friendswood Development Company, which was owned by Exxon, bought the property at Fostoria from Foster Lumber Company, Farmcraft, Inc. was hired as property managers and foresters. John moved to Texas to open a Farmcraft office in Fostoria and his partner stayed in Louisiana to manage the Oakdale office. From the early 60’s until Friendswood sold the property in the early 90’s, Farmcraft managed their property, Exxon property in Montgomery County and East Texas, and property for some of the larger landowners in Texas. From the move in the early 60’s, Texas has been home.

 

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Hinson; son, Jack Hinson and wife Susan; stepson, Kelly Garner and wife Wendy; sister, Ann McFarlin and husband James; grandchildren, Amber Hinson, Gage Garner and Zane Garner; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at Pace Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas.  Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Pace Stancil Chapel, Cleveland, Texas officiated by Reverend James McMillan. Interment will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park, Cleveland, Texas.
