James Edward Smith passed away surrounded by his family Tuesday, December 11, 2018.

He was born December 14, 1953 in Houston, Texas to James Arthur Smith and Dorothy Oliver Smith who preceded him in death along with his brother, Charles Arthur Smith, his youngest son, Eric Scott Smith, and his father in law, Carl Shirley. He worked 17 years for Omsco Industries in Houston, Texas. He retired in 2014 after running his own hot shot business for 13 years. He was a member along with his family at Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, and was a member of the praise team.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Vicki Ann Smith; sons, James West Smith and his wife Cassie, Chad Elton Smith and his wife Ruthanne; daughter in law, Taia Smith; daughter, Glenda Perry; grandchildren, Hayden West Smith, Matthew Ryan Smith, Carley Laine Smith, Haley Allissa Mays, Michael Ray Mays, Micah Scout Smith, Isabella Marie Smith, Canaan Jem Smith, Oliver Charles Smith, brothers in law, Carl Shirley, Jr., Scott Shirley and his wife, Laura, Greg Shirley and his wife, Cheryl, Kent Shirley and his wife Debbie. Numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m., Sunday, December 16, 2018 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 17, 2018 at Calvary Baptist Church 816 N Blair Ave. Cleveland, Texas. Reverend Carl Williamson officiating. The family will hold a private Graveside. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the music ministry at Calvary Baptist Church.
