Bennett Royce Sims

Bennett Royce Sims, age 62 of Cleveland, Texas, passed away Friday, October 12, 2018.  He was born April 3, 1956 in Wichita, Kansas to parents Emmitt and Virgie Sims who preceded him in death along with his sister, Janice Ford.

Bennett Sims was many things.

He was a respected coworker and loyal employee. He chose a life of hard work with his hands where his reliability, competence and diligence were an example to all who worked with him. He was a long-standing member of his union and leaves behind a beloved work family at Williams.

He was a devoted member of Victory Gospel Church where he particularly enjoyed volunteering.

He was a committed patron of Haven on the Hill Children’s Orphanage.  Watching the boys of Haven grow and learn was a joy as he believed every child should be loved and cared for.  His love of Haven on the Hill and Through the Storm Ministries was also at least partially responsible for the founding of The Plans He Has for You Ministries where he sat on the Board of Directors. His example of love and service will shine on for years to come through projects providing for the educational needs of children around the world.

Bennett was known far and wide for his incredible brisket (and ribs).  He was an excellent cook (except for that one salty turkey breast!) He could fix anything and he was always right (sometimes infuriatingly so.)

Most of all he was the best grandfather, father, and husband the world could ever know. The BEST. With a firm hand and soft heart, he guided his family. He was safety, and home, and hard work. He was great advice, and bedtime at nine, and PBS. He was no eating in the car, and Christmas is only one day, and a weenie roast fire. He was proper maintenance, and put it back where it goes, and do your best. He was a good man who had a good life and will be well missed.

Survivors include his wife, Tappy Sims; son, Robert Sims and wife Barbara; daughters, Cindy McCarther and husband Ken, Wendy Robbins and partner Mike; brother, Mike Sims and wife Pat; sister, Deana Burch and husband James; grandchildren, Katie McCarther, Kevin McCarther, Chloe Sims and Caroline Sims; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at Pace Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas. Services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at Pace Stancil Chapel, Cleveland, Texas. Interment will follow at Oak Shade Cemetery, Cleveland, Texas.
