Marie Jett Matthews, age 91, long-time resident of Missouri City, Texas, passed away Monday, May 28, 2018.  She was born January 7, 1927 in Houston, Texas, to parents Dennis H. and Lillie B. Jett who preceded her in death along with her husband, Charles T. Matthews, and brother, Kenneth Jett.

Survivors include her son Cris Matthews and his wife Susan, her son Bob Matthews and his wife Dorothy, grandchildren James Matthews, Ellen Dimon, Charlotte Snoberger, Ben Matthews and Anna Di Carlo, and great-grandchildren Ben, Sarah, Ani and Luca, with another due in October.

Marie was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church of Sugar Land, a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority and a volunteer at the Fort Bend Hospital in Missouri City where she led the annual blood drive for many years.  She was a dedicated and loving wife to Charles for over 68 years, consistently keeping the family running smoothly throughout many relocations with the Texas Pipe Line Company, calling many places “home” over the years, including multiple stints in the Houston area; Salem, Illinois; Atlanta, Georgia; Hearne, Texas; Wichita Falls, Texas; Midland, Texas; Lafayette, Louisiana; and finally settling in Missouri City, Texas.  She was a wonderful mother to Cris and Bob and was affectionately known as Tutu by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Friday, June 1, 2018 at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas, and a graveside service will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Cleveland Memorial Cemetery, Cleveland, Texas.
