James Ira Haltom, age 86 of Cleveland, Texas, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018.  He was born March 30, 1931 in Dolen, Texas to parents Jewel R. and Lubye Lee Haltom who preceded him in death along with his brothers, J.R. Haltom, Jr. and Robert G. Haltom; and sisters, Doris Wells and Dorothy Hall.

 

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mary Jo Haltom; daughter, Celeste Bradberry and husband Rusty; sister, Yvonne Griffin; brother, Terry Haltom and wife Donna; grandchildren, Anna Ryan Holt and husband Cameron, Casey Lauren Tooley and husband Cliff, Nicole Lee Brown and husband Jake; great-grandchildren, Hadlee Holt, Khaki Holt and Harper Tooley; numerous other relatives and friends.

 

James was a lifetime cowboy and rancher. He was a long-time member of Oak Shade Baptist Church (30 years). In 2000 he was inducted into the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame. He was a devout Christian, family man, all-around cowboy and pick up man. He was an Army Veteran (served in France during the Korean War). He also worked the Huntsville Prison Rodeo for 35 years.

 

Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 2, 2018 at Oak Shade Baptist Church, Cleveland, Texas with services starting at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Oak Shade Cemetery, Cleveland, Texas. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame in Ft Worth or to the Tarkington Student Foundation.
