John C. “Jake” Decker passed away peacefully on February 13, 2019 at the age of 88.

 

He was born October 27, 1930 in Harlingen, Texas to Virgil and Vada Decker. Jake worked many years as a draftsman for the Texas Highway Department. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, stationed in Germany. In later years he worked in construction. He was skilled in clock repair and enjoyed tinkering with rebuilding computers. Jake enjoyed his many hobbies and collections. For many years he was a familiar face at the Cleveland area flea markets.

 

He was predeceased by the mother of his children, Rosemary Decker; his wife, Norene Decker; a sister and a brother. He is survived by his sons, Brandy and Tobias Decker of McAllen, Texas; daughter, Dana Reilly of Harlingen, Texas; stepson, Mark Wilder; two granddaughters that he raised, Sydney Goodman of Cleveland, Texas and Krystle Lowe of Corpus Christi, Texas; several other grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

 

As per Jake’s wishes there will be no service.

 

His family wishes to express their appreciation to Acre’s Assisted Living for their excellent care and especially long-time caregiver Melvina Renee (who referred to him as “Grandpa Jake”), Ann, Monica, Kendra and Joni. The family appreciates the kindness you showed to him while he was in your care.
